I was encouraged with regard to concerns for my kids and concerns for their future from this verse:
“I have been young and now I am old. And in all my years I have never seen the Lord forsake a man who loves him; nor have I seen the children of the godly go hungry.” Psalm 37:25 -TLB
In other words the children of the righteous “won't lack” - they won’t be lacking anything in the coming future, the Lord will provide everything for them - for their physical/material needs, and even more important for their spiritual needs.
-
They won’t be lacking fellowship - the Lord will give them a relationship with Himself family in the Lord, and even when we leave this earth He will be with them. (Psalm 68:6, Heb 13:5)
-
They won’t be lacking bread (financially) - the Lord will provide for all their needs (Matt 6:33)
-
They won’t be lacking joy or peace - He will give them a hope and reason for living, and rest in their minds, overcoming an anxious life because they trust Him and have a hope in Him (Romans 14:17)
-
They won’t be lacking wisdom, He will give them all that they need to choose the right decisions and way through life (James 1:5)
-
They won’t be lacking protection - His angels will stand guard over all their life, protecting them from harm such as driving accidents or evil people who harm others (Psalm 91:11). Not only protection from physical harm but He will also protect them from spiritual harm - influences and temptations that are too much for them such as those at school, or temptations of the world which pull them (1 Cor 10:13)
-
Also, lastly, one of the most encouraging things for me has been: the Lord will protect my kids from my own mistakes!! My many sins and mistakes as a parent cannot derail their eternal life with Him, if I continue to repent of my sins and pray for them. Our consistent prayers for our children cover all our shortcomings as parents.
For the children of the godly (those who put Him first - seek Him and His kingdom/righteousness first) these are all promises we can take for our kids - they will never ever lack anything.
